A New Paradigm
The problems have been chronic and disabling, and very real. Not "all in your head." If you are reading this, chances are you've seen doctors and other providers, tests have been run, diagnoses have been proposed, and treatments have been attempted, but all to no avail. I would like to introduce a new paradigm, drawing on the role of the brain and nervous system in regulating the state of the body. These strategies have proven efficacy in chronic low back pain and fibromyalgia, and anecdotally have been used to treat a variety of other problems. Conditions treated include, but are not limited to: chronic pain, fibromyalgia, chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS), chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), migraine headache, anxiety, and other medically unexplained symptoms. Contact me to learn how to regulate the state of your own mind and body, and to treat your symptoms without surgery or medications.
About
Theodore Armstrong, MD
I'm a board certified Emergency Medicine physician, with over 13 years of experience in the field. I am an avid surfer and outdoor enthusiast, but most importantly enjoy sharing in these activities with my family. For a period of time, I was unable to do the things I loved, therefore my interest in psychophysiologic disorders is personal. I was able to successfully overcome my limitations through mind-body practices. I am passionate about sharing these newfound insights with patients, assisting them on their own healing journey.
My Approach
My philosophy is that good health results not only from minimizing pain and other unpleasant symptoms, but also from restoring and improving function and overall enjoyment of life. To help patients achieve this, I offer a stepwise approach:
1
Diagnosis
Are symptoms the result of a mind-body disorder, a structural problem in the body, or some combination thereof?
2
Education
A solid understanding of the origin of one's symptoms is not only therapeutic in its own right, but also integral to the treatment of mind-body syndromes.
3
Treatment
I emphasize the importance of individualized treatment strategies, including but not limited to:
-
Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)
-
Mental / Physical Awareness Techniques
-
Emotional Expression Therapy
-
Physical Training Tips
-
Art Therapy
I will also provide recommendations if services beyond my scope become necessary.
